THANKS FOR SUPPORTING US IN MAY!!!!

Our 'PLANT SALE' on 14th May was a big success thanks to all those who contributed with plants, home baking, transport, hall, voluntary assistance, and of course those who attended and helped to raise the marvellous sum of over £1,400! The NEWTON PARK GALA DAY on 22nd May turned out to be very windy making it a challenge to erect any kind of shelter. However our intrepid fundraisers braved the weather and home made jams, chutney and marmalade proved very popular as did knitwear for babies and young children. Over £174 was raised making the donation of the stall by Linda Gilmour very worthwhile. Many thanks to Linda and to all those who supported us.

Embroidery Presentation Day is a Huge Success

The culmination of two and half year's meticulous and skillful work took place on 18th November at St. Ninian's Church, Troon, with the presentation of the embroidery by Janet Taylor to David Reader, Chairman of Crossroads (South Ayrshire). On behalf of the Crossroads 'family' David thanked all involved with this lengthy project for all their work in creating such a unique piece of art which will be a vehicle for raising funds and will also act as an impressive backdrop/banner to accompany promotion of the charity. St. Ninian's Church Hall was opened to the public to view the Embroidery and for visitors to purchase tea/coffee and delicious home baking, all proceeds going to Crossroads. The event was very well supported and the magnificent sum of over £1,000 was raised. The Embroidery will be going on display and when the location is confirmed it will be made public.

Your Quality of Care and Support is Very Good

So say the Care Commission in their recent inspector's report. Part of the process involved fifty Care Commission questionnaires being made available for service users or their families/representatives to complete. Thirty five of these questionnaires were completed and returned. Twenty questionnaires were made available for staff to complete and seventeen were completed and returned. This was a fantastic 'returns' percentage - what a credit to our organisation particularly as the views expressed were extremely complimentary. In one section relating to 'Responding to service user's care and support needs using person centred values' we were graded as 'Excellent', the highest grade achievable! I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to all who returned questionnaires and particularly to everyone in the 'Crossroads Team' for working so hard to reach this high quality of service. If you wish you can view the full Care Commission report on line by accessing the 'Care Services' area of their website at www.carecommission.com . David Reader, Chairman.

Provost Winifred Sloan hosts Civic Reception

There was a very healthy attendance at the Civic Reception held in the County Buildings on 29th September to mark the 25th Anniversary. Provost Sloan's hospitality was greatly appreciated by over sixty invited guests including Elected Council Members, Crossroads staff, Carers with those for whom they care, past and present members of our Management Committee, Social Work staff closely involved with Crossroads, professional advisers, representatives of associated Voluntary Organisations, and friends/volunteers and fundraisers who have assisted over the years. Provost Sloan's address indicated a deep interest in the difficulties facing carers of all ages and she congratulated Crossroads (South Ayrshire) on reaching this significant milestone. Crossroads Chairman, David Reader, thanked Provost Sloan for hosting the celebration and also thanked the many people who have been involved over the years in making the service such a success. In recognition of their dedicated long service (a combined 36 years) Sarah Wilson, Scheme Coordinator, and Anne McNamee, Assistant Coordinator, were presented with gifts from the Management Committee. Jack Ryan, Chief Executive, Crossroads Caring Scotland, concluded the addresses by drawing attention to national efforts being made to meet the needs of Carers in Scotland and he joined the Provost in celebrating the scheme's achievement. It was a very successful and memorable evening befitting the occasion.

MSP starts Anniversary Walk

John Scott, MSP, was present at the start of this years Sponsored Walk on 12th September when he congratulated the organisation in providing the very valuable service to Carers before sending the participants on their way. The reduced number of walkers was more than compensated for by their enthusiastic participation on what was a dry but windy day especially on the esplanade. John and Mary Steele's refreshments and home made shortbread at the half way stage proved a suitable enticement for walkers as did the mountain of sandwiches and home baking at the Cathcart Street Hall finish. The grand total of £2,913.90 has been raised. A big 'Thank You' is due to all participants, sponsors and helpers, also to St. Columba Church whose hall we have used every year. We know that we can raise more at this annual event. This could be greatly facilitated by finding a volunteer to focus on its organisation. ANYONE WHO MAY BE INTERESTED TAKING ON THE ROLE OF "2011 WALK ORGANISER" SHOULD CONTACT OUR OFFICE.
